Brocade Firmware Version 5.1.0d Release Notes

This document contains important information about the Brocade firmware version 5.1.0d, which is used with the following:

  • 3250, 3850, 3900, 4100, and 4900 switches
  • 200E switch
  • 7500 SAN router and switch
  • 24000 and 48000 directors

Read this document so that you are aware of issues or requirements that can affect the installation and operation of Brocade firmware version 5.1.0d in a Sunstorage area network (SAN).

Downloading and Installing the Firmware

This section provides instructions for downloading and installing Brocade firmware version 5.1.0d.


To Download and Install Brocade Firmware Version 5.1.0d

Use the following procedure to retrieve Brocade firmware version 5.1.0d.

1. Access the SunSolve web site at:

2. Accept the terms and conditions of the license agreement.

3. Click Patches and Updates under the Support category.

4. Under PatchFinder, type the patch ID 122185, and click Find Patch.

Do not type the -xx revision number. PatchFinder automatically finds the latest patch.

5. Verify that you have retrieved the correct patch.

6. Print the README file that contains installation instructions and any special guidelines by doing one of the following:

  • Print the page as it is displayed.
  • Click Printer Friendly Page, and then print the page.

7. Download the patch by clicking on either HTTP or FTP in the following line:

Download Patch (nn,nnn,nnn bytes) HTTP FTP

8. When you have finished downloading the patch, install the patch by following the instructions in the patch README file.

SLES 11 SP4 and later updated the SSH minimum key exchange size to avoid a security vulnerability. Some SSH implementations do not support keys of at least 1536 bytes. To avoid this issue, upgrade Brocade firmware to version 6.4.3h or 7.3.1d or late

Updating Firmware

Firmware v6.0 introduced one-step upgrades/downgrades; you cannot jump releases.
For example, you cannot jump from 5.3.X to 6.1; you must first step to 6.0. Additionally, you must upgrade to 6.4.3 in order to make jump to 7.0.

Updating Firmware

Firmware v6.0 introduced one-step upgrades/downgrades; you cannot jump releases.
For example, you cannot jump from 5.3.X to 6.1; you must first step to 6.0. Additionally, you must upgrade to 6.4.3 in order to make jump to 7.0.
