She told him she loved Albert multiple times God she’s married to him for Pete’s sake but good ol’ Werther keeps telling her or rather showing her that he loves her.

Copycat Suicides Among Youths”.

Romanticism is shorn of its ideals and forced to kneel in all-too-human failure. One of these, Wrthers Nicolaidecided to create a satirical piece with a happy ending, entitled Die Freuden des jungen Werthers ” The Joys of Young Werther “in which Albert, having realized what Werther is up to, loaded chicken’s blood into the pistol, thereby foiling Werther’s suicide, and happily concedes Charlotte to him.

Werther may have suffered from mental illness by modern definitions, but had he sought treatment for his condition and overcome it, would this somehow have diminished the love he felt for Lotte, and thereby also have reduced a werthera real part of himself?

I felt like I was getting a bunch of illustrative examples from a humanities course of the themes of German romanticism thrown at me rapid fire. He was so content and dead set on doing it that he was even convinced that it was the right thing lidannde do, for him, for Albert, and of course, for his Lotte.

And, to be honest, I thought I would; I can compare myself to Lidznde in some ways But having experienced both, life becomes sublime and earth becomes heaven, moving us to tears for being able to experience life in such a manner that you are one with the entire universe.

In the end, I enjoyed the book a lot.

Everything in this book, every single letter written by Werther, leads only up to the inevitable ending, which is the protagonist’s suicide itself. He was unwilling to accept his own fault but rather blamed everyone else around him. But in my honest opinion – having this read for my German class, so in its origin language – this book is a way of Goethe to process his own experiences, feelings into something greater without actually telling th I DID IT!

Goethe is considered by many to be the most important writer in the German language and one of the most important thinkers in Western culture as well. People dressed like Werther, imitated Werther, even committed suicide like Werther. View all 14 comments. He told me I would cry rivers while reading it, that this book had once started a suicide wave, and I can’t quite comprehend unnge because I didn’t shed a single tear.

The New Sorrows of Young Ugne. I admit, it has been a sad read, but I didn’t pick up even the slightest hint of a Werther ‘fever’, if one could call it that. But Werther is A narrator distressed about his friendzone status. The connection to nature that he feels I found to be eloquently expressed here: I can’t imagine a worse ending for this book. Den unge Werthers lidanden by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

Upon entering Weimar, Werther is confronted with classist society. He is not tolerated and asked edn leave since he is not a nobleman. Werther isn’t an entirely sympathetic character he has the odd Kevin the Teenager moment but you are entirely drawn into his world and feel the same responses as him very keenly.

Emotions and experiences dictate. I had great remorse for poor Charlotte. When I consider the narrow limits within which our active and inquiring faculties are confined; when I see how all our energies are wasted in providing for mere necessities, which again have no further end than to prolong a wretched existence; and then that all our satisfaction concerning certain subjects of investigation ends in nothing better than a passive resignation, whilst we amuse ourselves painting our prison-walls with bright figures and brilliant landscapes, — when I consider all this, Wilhelm, I am silent.

This might not be for everyone but I liked it. This was probably the most difficult book with less than pages that I’ve ever read.
